We are writing in support of Pop Up Street Patios Inc., a Hamilton-based startup that has helped businesses in Toronto add dining space over the past three years.

Their expertise has recently proven valuable in the safe re-opening of restaurants throughout this spring and summer. During the coronavirus pandemic, the hospitality industry has suffered significantly, threatening the viability of their businesses. Restaurants sought solutions to help rebuild their customer base, and mobile street patios are one of the tactics that answered the need and have been bringing restaurants across the city back to life.

Since 2017, street patios and parklets have been installed in 25 locations across Toronto. The community parklets activate the street and re-imagine public spaces to be more vibrant, safe and healthy, creating places to read a book or have a conversation.

Having acquired their service in 2020, we have witnessed the patios directly benefiting our restaurateurs and inspiring an entrepreneurial community to reshape how food and beverage service can be delivered this year amid challenging times.

In these unusual times of the pandemic, your excellent service and enthusiasm in helping us implement this service to our downtown restaurants was so appreciated. To many of our restaurants this was the lifeline that will help them survive 2020 and will compliment their business’s hopefully in better summers ahead.

The public appreciated the quality, style, and function of the patios. Working with the city it was easy to work with infrastructures, the patios were unobtrusive and yet visible and safe to vehicles.

The patio has been more important than ever this year. Saverio and his crew are great to deal with and they do a terrific job. The city allowed us to extend down the sidewalk so we are able to have an additional 4 tables which is crucial to our operation right now. We love being part of this community of restaurants.

Sales have increased approx. 40% over last year. I think the Pop-Up Patio gave us increased exposure to drive by traffic. At Supercrawl, it helped tremendously with exposure & space.
